Territory and Dominion of New-England.
Created in May 1686, after the expiration of the Massachusetts Bay Colony charter, to increase administrative efficiency and royal control over Britain's North American colonies. Originally it comprised Massachusetts Bay, New Plymouth, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Connecticut; New York and New Jersey were added in 1688. It was dissolved in 1689 after the deposition of James II.
