Klefeker family

Franz (or Frans) Klefeker (1801-1882) of Hamburg, and later, Berlin, Germany was a merchant and customs official. He married Johanna Sophie Elenore Von Hanffstengel. Their daughter, Luise (1829- ) married George Alexander Saxer of New York in 1857. The couple settled in St. Louis and later, Ft. Wayne, where Saxer taught at the Concordia Collegium. He returned to New York, and, during the 1870s served as personal secretary to railroad magnate Henry Villard. He later went into business. He disappeared in 1884 and was thought to have been robbed and murdered.

Saxer's daughter, Hannah Luise was born in 1869 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and died 1915 in Halesite, Long Island, NY. She married Robert A. Troup in New York City in 1889. Her daughter, Marie Louisa Troup, donated the family papers to the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society
