Brophy, Thomas Wellington, 1888?-
Thomas Wellington Brophy was a felon from 1911-1915. He was a prison printer, editor, and prison reform advocate. Thomas wrote autobiographical accounts of his years as a prisoner at the Kansas State Penitentiary. He tried to bring about a more humane prison administration, institute an honor system for prisoners, and increase privileges for prisoners. One of his fictional characters, "Boston Jere", might be based on his own brother, Jeremiah.
