Stevens was a mineral surveyor in Tucson, Arizona.

Stevens was born in Wisconsin on May 6, 1835. He married Caroline E. Silsbee in Columbus (Wis.) on Jan. 31, 1856. Together they had six children: Howard (d. 1858), Lu(lu) (1860- ), Mary (1862- ), Carolyn (d. 1901), and Bertha. In 1862 Stevens enlisted as captain of Company C, 28th Wisconsin Infantry. He served until Sept. 1865. After the war the family moved to Greenville (Mich.) where Stevens worked in an abstract business. In 1879 the family moved to Stanton (Mich.) where Stevens served as register of deeds, 1879-1888. He retired in 1906. Stevens served as a delegate to the Republican National Convention of 1880. He was a member of the G.A.R. Army of Tennessee, the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States, and his regimental association. Stevens died on Jan. 19, 1908 in Stanton (Mich.).
