George Henry Pierce, the son of Hiram Dwight Pierce and Sara Jane Wiswall Pierce, enlisted into the Civil War, May 3, 1861, at age 19, in Troy, New York. He was mustered in as a private, into Company F, Colonel Carr's Regiment, New York Volunteers, May 14, 1861, to serve two years. George was promoted to the rank of Colonel (date not given) and discharged for a disability, December 4, 1862, Washington, D.C.
