Boyle is a poet and teacher. In addition to his published collections of poetry and prose, Bolye has had a number of his poems published in journals and magazines. He has been a participant at literary events, co-edited anthologies of poetry and been a member of the judging panel for the NSW Literary Awards, The Kenneth Slessor Poetry Prize and the Newcastle Poetry Competition. He has translated Spanish and French poetry into English and was co-editor of a bilingual (Spanish/English) anthology of Australian poetry entitled Australia - Poesia Contemporanea, published in Bogota in 1997. Boyle received assistance from the Australia Council to attend the 1997 Medellin Festival in Columbia to give readings from and help launch the book.
