Shuster was a prominent twentieth century artist in Santa Fe, New Mexico, who worked primarily as a painter and sculptor. He was a member of a Santa Fe artists group "Los Cinco Pintores." In 1926, Shuster created Zozobra (Old Man Gloom), the giant effigy that is burned at the annual Santa Fe Fiesta.
