Brothers Benjamin S. and Thomas W. Grayson came to Texas from South Carolina in the early 1830s, engaging in the shipping business on arrival.

Benjamin Grayson was involved in other business activities before relocating to Mexico in the 1840s, shipping supplies to California in the early months of the gold rush. Thomas Grayson established ranches in several locations before settling in Bexar County.
