Ala. lawyer and prison inspector.

Dawson was born in S.C., attended the University of Alabama and began practicing law in Camden, Wilcox Co., Ala. after 1860. He served in the Confederate States Army, reaching the rank of lieutenant colonel of the 13th Alabama Infantry Regiment. In 1883 he was appointed president of the Board of Inspectors of Convicts for Ala., a position he held until 1897.
