Organized as the Federation of Minnesota Forestry Service Employees in July 1938, the association sought to "unite the members of all areas of the Division of Forestry for the betterment of their interests and rights." In November 1939 the organization became the Association of Minnesota State Forest Service Employees and, in 1967, the Association of Minnesota Division of Lands and Forestry Employees. Open to all Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (formerly Conservation Department) Division of Forestry employees, this voluntary association served as an employees' lobbying group before the state legislature, departments of natural resources and personnel, and the Civil Service Board; a collecting group for the history of forestry in Minnesota; and a statewide professional and social network for its members. In the mid-1970s, the organization's name was changed to the Association of Department of Natural Resources Forestry Employees. By 1979 it was known as the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Forestry Employees Association.
