Harri Gwynn (1913-1985), poet, was born in London and brought up at Penrhyndeudraeth, Merionethshire. He was a student of the University College of North Wales (now the University of Wales, Bangor) from 1930-1932 and 1933-1940 and president of the Students Representative Council from 1935-1936. He had a varied career as a poet, teacher, civil servant, journalist and broadcaster and worked a farm in Eifionydd, Gwynedd.
In 1938 he presented his thesis on John Kelsall (1683-1743), the Quaker diarist, entitled John Kelsall: A Study in Religious and Economic History . He published two volumes of poetry, Barddoniaeth (1955) and Yng Nghoedwigoedd y Ser (1975), and a collection of essays, Y Fuwch a'i Chynffon (1954)
