South Carolina family. Henry W. Garlington, the son of John Garlington (b. 1784), was a Confederate Army officer. Henry W. Garlington was the father of William Hunter Garlington (1834-1889) and Henry Laurens Garlington (1839-1864), both of whom were born in Laurens County. William Hunter Garlington was a physician who served as a surgeon in a Georgia regiment of the Confederate Army. He died in Walnut Grove, Alabama. Henry Laurens Garlington entered Confederate service in the 3rd South Carolina Regiment. He was wounded at the Battle of the Wilderness on May 6, 1864 and died soon afterwards.
