Phillip R. Kunz (born 1936) is a Mormon sociologist in Utah.
Phillip R. Kunz was born on July 19, 1936, and grew up in Utah. He enlisted in the army for a few years, then served a mission in Alabama and Georgia around 1957-1958. He met Joyce Sheffield in 1959 and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on March 18, 1960. Their first child, Jay Phillip Kunz, was born on January 4, 1961. Kunz attended school at Brigham Young University, beginning graduate work in 1962. He went on to receive a Ph.D., then worked as a professor of sociology at the University of Wyoming and later at Brigham Young University. In 1990, he and his wife served a mission to Louisiana Baton Rouge. Kunz was called to serve as a counselor in the BYU 5th Stake Presidency in 2000. In 2005, they served another mission to Moscow, Russia, where they served as Director and Assistant Director in Minsk, Belarus. They currently live in Provo, Utah.
