Eyer, Cortland, 1905-1989

Cortland Eyer was born 10 November 1905 in Wilmington, Delaware. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Delaware University in 1927 and a master's degree (1929) and a doctorate (1935) from Northwestern University, Illinois. He became an assistant professor at Northwestern University in 1938 and was appointed to the position of director at the former Philadelphia School of Social Science and Art in 1945. Later that year he taught French at Valley Forge Military Academy. In 1946, Dr. Cortland Eyer became an assistant professor of romance languages at Pennsylvania State University. He became an associate professor in 1948. In 1954 he became a full professor, retiring with the title of professor emeritus in 1970. He died on 10 May 1989 in State College, Pa.
