The enabling act which established Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College as Oklahoma's land-grant university was signed in December 1890. The name was changed to Oklahoma State University in 1957.

Records preserved in this collection document the administrations of presidents: James W. Cantwell, 1915-1921; James B. Eskridge, 1921-1923; George Wilson, 1923; Bradford Knapp, 1923-1928; Henry G. Bennett, 1928- 1951; Oliver S. Wilham, 1952-1966; and Robert B. Kamm, 1966-1977.
