Townsend family.
Nathaniel Townsend, born in New Haven, Conn., moved to Norwich where he established himself as a barber and merchant. His son Charles moved to Buffalo with George Coit in 1811. Life-long business associates, Townsend and Coit operated a drugstore and engaged in shipbuilding and transportation. Townsend served as a Niagara County judge from 1813-1826.
