Louisiana State University (Baton Rouge, La.). Police Department.

Hide Profile

The Louisiana State University Police Department traces its lineage back to 1938 when Charles R. Anderson was hired as a night watchman. On June 17, 1942, Anderson was appointed Chief Watchman and served as Chief of Police until July 1973. During his tenure the Louisiana Legislature granted police officer status to University Security Officers in 1968. In 1988 the Police Department; the Occupational and Environmental Safety Office; the Office of Parking, Traffic, and Transportation; and the Office of Risk Management were united under the Office of Public Safety. Each department is located in the Public Safety Building on South Stadium Road, which opened in October 1995.
