Edith "Ede" R. Huber was born in December of 1912, one of eight daughters and three sons born to Mathias J. and Maude Huber of Gladwin (Mich.). Mathias was a farmer. Edith graduated from Gladwin High School in 1931. She may have begun teaching immediately after high school or later, when she studied at Gladwin County Normal School between September 1931 and June 1932. Ede taught in Frederic, Grayling, and Gladwin schools. From July 1932 through 1955, Ede studied in between teaching assignments at Central Michigan College of Education, later Central Michigan University School of Education. After taking classes over a 20 year period, she earned a B.S. In 1961, she married David Hamilton (died in 1975). Edith retired from teaching in 1970. On April 20, 2007 Ede died. A devout christian, she was devoted to her large family. Ede was a very generous lady, loved the outdoors, and was a poet. She was preceeded in death by her parents, one sister, Loraine, and brothers, Ovid and Duane. Her sisters Wanda, Eunice, Ruth, Maysell, Maxine, Patricia, and a brother, Don, over 60 nieces and nephews, and many brothers- and sisters-in-law survived her.
