William Frederick Pitts (b. Nov. 27, 1919, March Field, Calif.-d. Dec. 30, 2008), U.S. Air Force officer, was awarded his pilot wings even before graduating from the U.S. Military Academy in 1943. After serving as an instructor pilot, he served with the 431st Bombardment Squadron in the Marianas flying 25 combat missions in B-29s. After the War he was assigned as assistant air attaché to Cuba, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic. Following a number of assignments in the U.S. and further military education, General Pitts assumed command of the 327th Air Division, 13th Air Force, in Taiwan in 1966, and in 1971 became commander, 3rd Air Force, U.S. Air Forces in Europe with HQ in England. He retired in 1975.
