Faculty of Oklahoma A&M College began developing a library shortly after the school opened for classes in December 1891. Library routines and policies were developed and an accession book was begun in 1893. By July 1894, they had recorded 620 volumes. Forty-five years later, in July 1939, the collection had grown to 114,527 volumes. Growth continued, and in 1957 there were approximately 400,000 volumes. Within fifteen years, in 1972, the Library added the millionth volume to its collection, 80 years after the first was acquired. It then took less than 30 years for the collection to double in its size, in 1999.
