Pierson, Edward A., 1836-1863
Variant namesEdward A. Pierson (1836-1863), a Newark, N.J. (Essex County) physician and Civil War surgeon. He first served as surgeon's mate in the N.J. Infantry, First Regiment, and later as naval surgeon aboard the frigate St. Lawrence and the gunboat Penobscot. He was killed May 22, 1863 when the Penobscot was fired upon at Fort Fisher, North Carolina.
