Leo A. Benolken was born in Livingston, Montana, in 1905, the son of Frank Arnold Benolken and Phoebe Benolken. He attended Montana State University in Bozeman and then transferred to Gonzaga University. He worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad from 1921 to 1926. In 1933 he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps. During World War II he worked in the Seattle-Tacoma shipyard, for the Anaconda Company's chromium plant at Nye, and for the Standard Construction Company in Bozeman. After the war he again worked for the Northern Pacific, in Bozeman, from 1947 to 1971. In retirement he became active in compiling information on the CCC in Montana. He died November 27, 1995.
Frank Arnold Benolken was born in 1873 in Sterns County, Minnesota. He moved to Livingston, Montana, and worked for the Northern Pacific Railway Company. About 1925 he moved to Helena, where he lived until 1937. He died in Livingston March 25, 1940.
