Theodore Whims Shoemaker was born October 22, 1908, in Columbus, Ohio. In 1936 he was ordained a deacon in the Ohio Annual Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church and began his ministry as a pastor. He served at Columbus, Lindworth-Bethel; Toledo, Western Avenue; Yellow Springs; Cincinnati, Auburn Avenue; New Lexington, First; Kenton, First; Toledo, Broadway; Dayton, Community; Springfield, High Street; Toledo, Rossford. From 1940-43 he was with the Wesley Foundation at Athens, Ohio. He retired from active ministry in 1978. He served as Vice-President of the World Service and Finance Commission of the Conference, and on the Board of Ministry. He was active in the Masons and various civic organizations. He died at Newark, Ohio on January 22, 1984. In 1989 his collection of sermon outlines was given to Methodist Theological School in Ohio by his children, John D. Shoemaker and Judith Ann Smith.
