Volborth, A. (Alexis)
Variant namesAlexis Volborth (1924-), a geochemist, was born in Finland and educated at the University of Helsinki. After working in various geology related jobs in Finland, he began his career in the United States as a research fellow at California Institute of Technology from 1955-1956. He was a mineralogist with the Nevada Mining Analytical Laboratory at the University of Nevada from 1956-1968, and concurrently an adjunct professor of geology with the Mackay School of Mines at the University of Nevada. Volborth was professor of geology at Dalhousie University from 1968-1972, visiting professor at the Lunar Science Institute, University of Houston from 1972-1973, visiting research chemist, University of California-Irvine from 1973-1975, and a professor of geology and chemistry at North Dakota State University beginning in 1975. He has done consulting work for the Atomic Energy Commission, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and Anaconda Company.
