Herbert Edward Salter

Herbert Edward Salter (1863-1951), historian, was born in London on 6 February 1863, and educated at Wimborne Grammar School, Winchester College and New College, Oxford. He was ordained deacon in 1888, and priest in 1889, and was Vicar of Shirburn, South Oxfordshire, 1899-1909. Salter was an authority on the history of the Oxford, and was a research fellow at Magdalen College, 1919-1939. He died at Broad Oak, Sturminster Newton, Dorset, on 23 April 1951.
