Original partnership established by Jacob Weirman and John Worst in early 1890s to produce barrel staves in Pemiscot County, Mo., clear lands for timber, and later rent the land to local farmers; joined by Samuel Brinkerhoff, Fremont, Ohio; in 1900 with the death of Weirman and his replacement by John M. Sherman (also of Fremont), company reorganized as Worst, Sherman & Brinkerhoff; incorporated in 1905 as Pemiscot Land & Cooperage Company; after the death of Brinkerhoff in 1906, his share passed to widow Mary Miller Brinkerhoff who later married Webb C. Hayes; in 192 John Worst died, leaving son, L.C. Worst as stockholder; Mary Miller Hayes turned over her shares to Union Trust Company (Cleveland, Ohio); in 1931 Webb C. Hayes II became president, upon the death of John Sherman; in 1935 the company became involved with cotton ginning with the established of its subsidiary, Pemiscot Ginning & Mercantile Company; under the leadership of Carl Bloker, secretary and general manager, liquidation proceedings were begun in 1947 and company dissolved in 1951; headquartered in Caruthersville, Mo.
