Jonas Smith (1773-1846), a resident of Orange, New Jersey, served during the Whiskey Rebellion of 1794 as a private in Captain William Steele's Troop of Light Dragoons, 1st Calvary Regiment from Essex County. He married Elizabeth Tucker in 1809.
