Joint Committee to Raise Funds for the Relief of Virginia Friends who Suffered from the Devastation of Civil War.
The Joint Committee included members appointed by the three Philadelphia Hicksite meetings to raise money through voluntary subscription to assist in the relief of Quakers in Virginia who had suffered heavy losses in the Civil War, particularly as a result of Sherman's march. Asa M. Janney was one of the most severely affected through the loss of his mill.
