William Roy Newman (1908- ), an economic geologist, was born in Winipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and received his Ph. D. from the University of Toronto in 1934. He was a geologist in West Africa (1935-1939) before serving Canada in World War II. After the war, Newman was a consulting geologist in Manitoba and Ontario (1946-1948) and went to work for Bear Company, Ltd. in 1949. He did concurrent consulting work after 1950.
