Willis, Robert J., 1923-

Robert J. Willis was born in 1923 in Utica, N.Y., the son of John D. and Marie Willis. He enlisted in the Army at Utica on January 22, 1943. At the time of enlistment he was unmarried and had attended four years of high school. He joined the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale, Colo. and was assigned to Headquarters company of the 86th Infantry, 1st Battalion. He later served in the regimental headquarters and with the division headquarters. During combat operations in Italy, Willis was awarded the Bronze Star for his actions at the Apennines and Po River. He attained the rank of Master Sergeant.
