Public, primary school in Charleston, S.C.; founded 1881; Crafts School was named in honor of William Crafts (1787-1826), a native of Charleston, S.C., and an 1805 graduate of Harvard; a successful lawyer, Crafts served in both houses of the S.C. General Assembly; a contributor to Omnium Botherum, or Strictures on "The Omnium gatherum," a satirical publication of local news.
