Stanley M. Powell was born July 7, 1898 in Ionia, Mich. He received a B.S. in agriculture from the Michigan Agriculture College in 1920. He was elected to the state legislature in 1930, and lost in 1932 with the New Deal landslide. He worked at the Michigan Farm Bureau as its legislative council and director of public affairs, and was also active in the Michigan State Grange, 1932-1966. He retired from the Michigan Farm Bureau in 1964 to run for the Michigan House of Representatives. Powell represented the 89th District (Barry, Ionia, and Kent counties) from 1965 to 1972, and 88th District from 1973 to 1978 (Clinton, Ionia, Gratiot, Montcalm and Shiawasee counties). A Veteran of World War I. Delegate to Michigan State Constitutional Covention from Ionia, County, 1961-1962. Powell died in 1988.
