Spector, Buzz
Variant namesIn January 2007, Cornell Art Professor Buzz Spector created a sculpture of a giant letter "C" composed entirely of more than 800 books on arts and humanities subjects written by Cornellians and loaned by authors from across the Cornell community. Initially exhibited in the College of Architecture, Art and Planning's New York City space at 50 W. 17th St. from January 12-19, 2007, it was reinstalled for a monthlong exhibition in Kroch Library's Hirshland Gallery in April. Books spanned the years from 1953 (M.H. Abrams' seminal "The Mirror and the Lamp") to late 2006 (astronomer Jim Bell's pictorial "Postcards from Mars"). The installation was accompanied by a display of large-format Polaroid photographs of the completed sculpture.
