Portrait painter; Washington, D.C.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts. Hinckley studied art in Paris with Carolus-Duran and Bonnat from 1864 to 1884, graduating from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. Establishing a studio in Washington, D.C. in 1884, he painted portraits of eminent Americans. Hinckley also instructed the portrait class at the Corcoran Art School for six years.
