Corker, Stephen Alfestus, 1830-1879.
Stephen Alfestus Corker (1830-1879) was born in Burke County, Georgia and married Margaret Myrtis Palmer (1840-1916). He served as captain of Company A, 3rd Georgia Regiment during the Civil War. He was captured during the Battle of Gettysburg July 2, 1863 and sent to prison on Johnson's Island (Ohio). He remained a prisoner there until February 1865 when he was transferred to City Point, Virginia and later paroled. After the war he was a lawyer, a member of the Georgia House of Representatives, and a member of the 41st Congress (1870-1871).
