John Jacob Nevitt (ca. 1848-ca. 1918), architect, was born in Savannah, Georgia. He attended the Georgia Military Institute in Marietta, Georgia. The cadets were called out in the fall of 1864 to join the Confederate States Army. Nevitt was in Company B of the Georgia Cadets and served with them until he mustered out in the spring of 1865. He is said to have been the architect of the U.S. Post Office in Savannah, which was completed in 1899.
