John H. Beeler, retired Army captain and professor of history at UNCG, began his study of English medieval warfare when he was a graduate student at Cornell University. His Cornell doctoral dissertation was a study of the role of the castle in the military history of England, and this study was expanded in his book, Warfare in England, 1066-1189. Beeler also revised and edited The art of war in the Middle Ages, by C.W.C. Oman, wrote Warfare in feudal Europe, 730-1200, and contributed to other scholarly works on military history.
