Joined state militia in 1893; went to Cuba as a sergeant in the War with Spain, rose to major and commanded a battalion of 31st Mich. Regiment when it left for France in 1917, commended for bravery at Chateau Thierry, gassed in action. After the war worked in Detroit Water Dept. and D.S.R. Active in American region, Red Arrow Club, Light Guard Ass'n, United Spanish-American War Veterans. Died in veterans hospital at Maywood, Ill. and buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Detroit leaving wife Lily and children; George, Leslie, Harry, Edwin, Ruth. (from obit. in D.N.
