Northwestern Milling and Power Company (Spokane, Wash.)

Hide Profile

Simon Oppenheimer, a Spokane businessman, established and bonded the property of the old Spokane Mill Company and traveled to The Netherlands, where he sold the bonds to the Amsterdamsch Trustee’s Kantoor for $300,000. He returned to Spokane with the grand plan to rejuvenate the industries of the city, which were still in the doldrums after the Panic of 1893. Oppenheimer invested the $300,000 unwisely on various speculative schemes, and in 1896 the company went into receivership. Oppenheimer departed the country and went to South America.
