Stevenot, Archie D., 1882-1968.

Mine manager and businessman of Sonora, Calif. Archie Stevenot was general superintendent at Carson Hill Mine, Tuolumne County (1919-1924) and later proprietor of two Merced, Calif. hotels that served tourists on way to Yosemite. Helped organize Mother Lode Highway Association to promote transportation facilities in remote California mountain communities. This organization later merged with Golden Chain Council of the Mother Lode (1950) principal purpose of which was to promote regional tourism. He also belonged to many history-related organizations. Correspondence in Stevenot's papers includes letters between four Stevenot brothers: Joseph E.H., Ferdinand G., Archie D. and Cassimir M., who were partners in Stevenot Corporation (1929-1941). Joseph Stevenot represented family interests in Philippine mining. Fred Stevenot served in California state legislature (1911-1913; 1924-1926). He was later California Director of Natural Resources and President of Bankamerica Agricultural Credit Corporation (until 1942).
