Mustapha Matura was born in Trinidad, West Indies, 1939. He was educated in Roman Catholic intermediate school. Since 1968 Matura has been a full-time writer, founder and chairman of Black Theatre Co-operative, and advisor of International Theater Institute. Most of his plays are published, and were staged in London and New York City. As a screenwriter, Matura is the author of "Murders of Boysie Singh," 1972, and the co-author of the television series "No problems," 1983. His awards and honors include: John Withing Award from the Arts Council of Great Britain, 1970; George Devine Award from the English Stage Co., 1972, for his play "As time goes by;" named most promising writer by Evening Standard, 1975, for "Play Mas;" named Director of the Year, Caribbean Times, 1982.
