Hide Profile

The Committee for the 1992 Adirondack Park Centennial was formed in 1988 as the official coordinating group for statewide centennial planning to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Forest Preserve. It was incorporated as a not for profit organization in June 1990, and was registered with the New York State Office of Charities. Largely a volunteer effort, more than 250 events and exhibitions took place in 1992, including an awards program, traveling exhibit, art and lecture series, and a symposium on biological diversity. The committee was started by a resolution sponsored by Assemblyman Maurice D. Hinchey, who was chairman of the Assembly Committee on Environmental Conservation.
