John Saffin (1632-1710) was a lawyer and selectman in Scituate, Mass., before moving to Boston, where he served as Representative (and Speaker in 1686) to the General Court, 1684 to 1686. Saffin moved to Bristol, R.I. (then a part of Massachusetts), in 1690, served as First Judge of Probate, 1692 to 1702, was appointed Supreme Court Judge in 1701, and became one of ten Massachusetts Counsellors under King William's Charter, 1692 to 1703.
