Chemistry professor. Kathleen Desmond Trahanovsky was born 19 September 1939 and received her A.B. (1960) in Chemistry from Emmanuel College in Boston and her M.S. (1962) and Ph. D (1969) in Organic Chemistry from Iowa State University. Her M.S. thesis was "Relative Reactivities of Some Hydrocarbons in Reactions with N-Bromosuccinimide" and her Ph. D thesis was "Electron Spin Resonance Studies of Some o-Naphthosemiquinones and Cyclic Unsaturated Semidones." Trahanovsky has been teaching in the Iowa State University Chemistry Dept.(1960- ) and is currently an Adjunct Associate Prof.
Trahanovsky is a member of several professional organizations including the American Chemical Society, Iota Sigma Pi, the Association for Women in Science, and Sigma Xi. Within the American Chemical Society she has been extremely active with the Women Chemists Committee serving as Chair, 1989-1991, and on numerous committees.
