Born Hildegarde Loretta Sell, Hildegarde began working in Vaudeville in the 1920s and also worked as a night club singer. She worked on the radio program "The Raleigh Room" during World War II and she later appeared on Broadway.

Hildegarde Loretta Sell was born in Wisconson on February 1, 1906. Known professionally as "Hildegarde," Miss Sell became a successful caberet and cafe singer. She was also a pianist and an actress. Hildegarde made her first recording on October 17, 1934. Hildegarde was honored on her eightieth birthday, February 1, 1986, at Carnegie Hall, in New York City.
