Previously located in Wahpeton, known as Red River Valley University, moved to Fargo. Part of Wesley College School of Religion which was affiliated with University of North Dakota. Walter Lee Airheart served as first director, 1921-1944. Wesley College withdrew its funding in 1931. Reorganized in 1932 as Fargo School of Religious Education with the purpose of continuing non-sectarian, non-denominational religious education. Renamed North Dakota School of Religion in 1962. In 1973, the school's building and land was donated to North Dakota State University Development Foundation who agreed to maintain a Dept. of Religion at North Dakota State University. In 1977 the school formally became part of North Dakota State University.
