Born in 1952 in Newark, N.J., Peter Shapiro is a financial executive and former politician. He was the youngest person ever elected to the New Jersey General Assembly, and was elected twice for the position of Essex County Executive in 1978 and 1982. Shapiro was the Democratic nominee for Governor of New Jersey in 1985 against incumbent Thomas Kean.
