Pioneer in chemical pesticide research, Donald E.H. Frear focused on the chemistry of insecticides, fungicides, and herbicides, plant nutrition and chemistry, and the relation of chemical structure to biological priorities. Frear originated and edited the Pesticide Handbook for over 20 years. He served as an original member of the Food Protection Committee of the National Research Council and chairman of its Chemical Subcommittee for 5 years.
