George Robert Crotch and Joseph Woodfall Ebsworth

George Robert Crotch (1842-1874) was born at Bishop's Hull, Somerset. He matriculated at St John's College, Cambridge, in 1861 (B.A., 1864; M.A., 1867), and became an assistant at the University Library in 1866, and second assistant librarian, 1867-1871. He worked as an assistant at the Cambridge Museum of Comparative Zoology, before emigrating to the United States. Crotch compiled a Catalogue of British coleoptera . He died in Philadelphia on 16 June 1874.

Joseph Woodfall Ebsworth (1824-1908) was born on 2 September 1824 in Lambeth, Surrey. After studying art in Edinburgh he became chief artist to a firm of Manchester lithographers in 1848, but soon moved to Glasgow, where he became a master at the school of design. He entered St John's College, Cambridge, in 1860 (B.A., 1864; M.A., 1867), and was a curate from 1864 to 1871, and vicar of Molash, Kent, 1871-1894. Ebsworth published old English poems and ballads. He died on 7 June 1908 at Ashford, Kent.
