Gwynedd Monthly Meeting was established in 1714 by Philadelphia Quarterly Meeting out of Haverford [later Radnor] Monthly Meeting. Gwynedd held its first session in 12mo 1714/5. It was transferred to Abington Quarterly Meeting in 1786. In 1827, after the Hicksite Separation in Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, the meeting split into Hicksite and Orthodox branches. Gwynedd Monthly Meeting (Orthodox) was discontinued in 1936. Gwynedd Monthly Meeting (Hicksite) was discontinued in 1936. Its three preparative meetings, Gwynedd, Norristown and Plymouth, were then established as monthly meetings. The second Gwynedd Monthly Meeting (Hicksite) became a united meeting in 1953 by affiliation with Abington Quarterly Meeting (Orthodox). It is currently an active monthly meeting.
